An essential role in Public Relations is pitching products throughout different editorial outlets to increase awareness about the brand and increase sales on certian items. My supervisor, Julianna, will receive a pitch list from Milan with certian items that they are looking to showcase this season. They can either be best sellers or items that are not moving enough through the market.
This spring, Miu Miu has debuted some amazing sandals within the commercial line that are sparkily, fun, and up-to-date with the "Underwater" theme, a trend seen throughout the runways with brands like Chanel and Versace.
A few days ago, Jules emailed me and explained that she was looking to generate more press for these sandals and asked my advice on what online blogs or websites I felt would be beneficial in highlighting these shoes in both a press sense and a retail sense. She was pushing to get a writeup on Fashionista.com, a blog with one of highest trafficking counts online. I suggested she look into Net-a-Porter, which is not only an e-commerce website, but also publishes their own online magazine and reviews of their favorite products. Additionally, I presented Bergdorf Goodman's 'Shoe of the Day' feature, FashionIndie.com, and Style.com's shoe reviews.
After I got back to her with my ideas, she seemed incredibly pleased and used some of my suggestions in her pitch. A few days later, She sent me a link of a successful review on Fashionista.com. Immediately after this review was posted, tons of other blogs wrote their own reviews and sales from the shoes began to increase.
This was one of the first experiences I've had in assisting in other aspects of PR other than the editorial coordinating. It was so interesting to see the pitching process from start to finish and to know that my input helped in generating sales for this product! Read the Fashionista review here.
