This year was one of the most exciting for Prada, as the brand and Mrs. Prada herself are honored as the focus of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's 2012 Costume Institute Gala.
The event, which boasts an impressive guest list of over 700 famous faces and a $25,000 ticket fee, will pay tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada in the Met's latest exhibit, "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," which explores the similarities and difference of two of fashion's most influential designers.
“This fundraising event is The Costume Institute’s main source of annual funding for exhibitions, acquisitions and capital improvements,” said Nancy Chilton, the senior press officer/adviser to The Costume Institute. The Institute houses a collection of 35,000 costumes and accessories from the 15th century to present day.
The last month has been absolute chaos in the office, with everyone gathering together and making preparations for the event. Prada, along with Anna Wintour, are also the hosts of the extravagant after party at the Sinclair Mansion on 79th street at 5th Avenue. Everyone down to the waitstaff is being fitted in custom Prada Suits, and wardrobe requests for both of Mrs. Prada's brands have been flowing in nonstop.
I was an imperative part of managing the requests coming in from Vogue to outfit celebrities in as many of Mrs. Prada's creations as possible. I worked closely with Elizabeth Gilpin at Vogue to determine what Spring/Summer samples were suitable to send for specific celebrities.
It's so exciting to be part of such a monumental event for the company and seeing just how much of an impact Mrs. Prada has made in the fashion world. It's unreal to see just how many people idolize her and her work, and makes my internship experience even more meaningful.
